Leaders and Managers

A leader is in the business of making sure the right things are done.

A manager is in the business of making sure things get done right.


In order to be great, every organization must have both leaders and managers. Ideally, all managers would be able to lead, unfortunately that’s rarely the case.

But there’s hope! An important truth that everyone (including individual contributors) must internalize is that leadership can be learned! Leadership is a series of strategic and tactical principles that anyone can learn and use to build better teams.

The ultimate marker of a great leader, is whether they produce more leaders. Great leaders understand that more leadership spread among every level of the organization, makes every individual part better. Great leaders don’t hoard power, they distribute it.

Successful organizations put a concerted effort into ensuring their managers are also leaders.
